Workshop: McCall McClellan and Sophie Minouche Allen’s “For when I land”

For when I land is a solo made by Sophie Minouche Allen with and for McCall McClellan as McCall navigates a temporarily nomadic life — traveling, living and dancing between Chicago, LA and Washington DC. We wonder what it means to be born into a life of perpetual motion and look to manta rays to examine what putting down “mobile roots” might feel like.

ANTARANGA: Between You and Me

ANTARANGA: Between You and Me is set in a world in deep crisis (much like our own) where most people have lost their ability to sense the energy of other human beings and can no longer recognize or connect with each other. A few humsafar (Urdu for “fellow travelers”) remain, blessed with super-connecting and heart-opening powers. As they undertake perilous journeys, they forge connectivities that may yet heal the world. ANTARANGA is the first work in a duology, and explores themes of intimacy, connection, trust, and community among BIPOC women/femmes.

How do we maintain memory through communal ritual, movement, and witness as way of honoring our grief and joy? It is truly a love endurance across lifetimes and generations, a commitment to re-membering carefully through sensitivity and strength, a tender warriorship through the liberative narratives of the Chi-Pinay.

Medicine Pill Packaging Costume Creation Workshop with Ray | Bridge Dance Festival 2024

Gather to help finish Ray Nakazawa’s Bridge Dance Festival costume made of medicine pill packaging! This workshop is the time-space where you reflect on your journey of healing of your own or your loved ones either with/without actually talking about it, but physically being together through making of the garment.

Bring yourselves and your own empty pill packages if you’d like to add them as a part of Ray’s solo costume/set. The garment will be worn during Ray’s solo during Bridge Dance Festival performances this weekend.

Witness Ray’s work in the Bridge Dance Festival this Friday and Saturday, November 8th and 9th, at 7pm.
