Erin Kilmurray

Nightshade

Part of Links Hall’s 2023 Co-MISSION Festival of New Works

Kilmurray and collaborators share a first look at Nightshade -- a dance, a living architecture, a memory, a celebration. Grooved through repetition, collective rhythms, disorientation and desire, the piece is searching for all that flourishes best in the dark.

Nightshade (work in process)

Created by choreographer Erin Kilmurray

with collaborating performers Alyssa Gregory, Camila Rivero Pooley, Chloe Hamilton, Deandra Alaba, Drew Lewis, Kierah KIKI King, Kristen Donovan, Mikey Rioux, Sarah Ellen Miller + Tuli Bera

** In addition to initiating Nightshade, Kilmurray was able to be in differing stages of creative processes for several ongoing projects including Knockout, a duet with collaborator Kara Brody, as well as iterative materials for recent work the Function, as well as for The Fly Honeys.

Erin Kilmurray is a Chicago-based dance artist creating genre-straddling, femme-forward performance work that demands aliveness and collectivity on stage, in studio, and with audiences. She facilitates a dance and community practice that explores the liberations of women, queer folks, the underground and the underdog.  Her work embraces mess, play, and lessons in how arbitrary the line between artist and audience can be.

Erin is the founder / director of  The Fly Honey Show - a performance project that recently sold out rock venue Thalia Hall, was featured at Lollapalooza, and named a “Chicago institution” (Chicago Reader). She is recognized as an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Awardee (2023), a Chicago Dancemakers Lab Artist (2020), and one of 50 People Who Really Perform for Chicago (2023; Newcity). Kilmurray and was one of three artists commissioned for the inaugural Chicago Performs program at the Museum of Contemporary Art, where she premiered her most recent work, the Function (2022). Additionally, Erin has made dances for countless independent makers, parties, music videos, festivals, concerts, and theatrical productions. She is also on faculty at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago.
