Links Hall is excited to announce the encore performance of the new works developed by our Co-Mission Resident Artists. The lineup includes fresh new works by Jenn (Po’Chop) Freeman, and Jessica Ray.

The artists have had the support of three-month residencies at Links Hall, monthly stipends over the course of their residencies, and workshop support and mentorship to aid in the development of their projects. Each night is a double bill featuring both artists.


Dynamite is an exploration into memory and masculinity. It is the reimagining of traditions. It is finding one’s self within the legacies of those who came before us.
Hell bent on creating a repertoire that sparked conversations regarding notions of gender, sexual prowess, and race, Jenn Freeman made her debut as burlesque artist Po’Chop in 2010. With over a decade of dance training including studying at Columbia College Chicago, Po’Chop uses elements of dance, storytelling, and striptease to create performances that are described by Chicago critics as “…the most provocative symbol of might onstage…It was as if Po’Chop had captured lightning in a bottle and the bottle was herself.” Since Po’s debut, she has seared across many US stages, from New Orleans, New York (where she performed at the Brooklyn Museum in Brown Girls Burlesque’s Bodyspeak), and St. Louis. Though any opportunity to perform is met with an indescribable ferocity, Po’ relishes and considers being a Jeezy Juke Joint board member and creating and performing, Chicago Reader Recommended, Black As Eye Wanna Be career highlights. Po’Chop was selected as the recipient of the Chances Dances Mark Aguhar Memorial Grant in 2015 and was recently chosen to participate in the 2016 RDDI Chicago Dance Lab. Needless to say, Po’Chop is the meat so, sweet even vegetarians want to take a bite!

Jessica Ray:
All That I Remember

Here we are. What kind of time does it take to show up, listen, and continue? Memory slips through the work as it’s composed for the environment, the viewers, the constraints of the situation. Are we still here, right now? Without interruption, carrying on, here for you, you for me. In the absence of music, we can follow this wherever it goes. The time we have will be sufficient.
Jessica Ray is a dance artist new to Chicago from New York. She works in improvisational forms, creating an abstract, live performance of endurance, risk, and precise choice. In addition to solo work, she collaborates with composers and other choreographers, teaches, and performs in the work of others. Her work has been nationally presented at AUNTS at the Pulitzer Foundation, Roulette Intermedium, The Movement Research Festival at Judson Church, the Chocolate Factory, the Flea Theater, Food for Thought at Danspace Project, and Pieter PASD. She has performed in the work of Renée Archibald, Megan Byrne, Laurie Berg, Elizabeth Ward, Nina Winthrop, K.J. Holmes and Christopher Williams. In addition to her performance work, she has curated for Roulette Intermedium, moderated talk backs at the Flea Theater, and supported the dance community in administrative roles at Movement Research and Roulette Intermedium. Jessica taught as an adjunct professor at Wayne State University in Detroit before settling into Chicago.
