Michelle Kranicke was awarded a 2016 Curatorial Residency.
Michelle Kranicke pushes the art of dance, questioning assumptions and preconceived notions of what movement is, reexamining how dance should be presented, and who lays claim to the role of performer. She is the founder and artistic director of Zephyr. For three consecutive years, (2012-2014) with an artist team comprised of an architect, video artist, textile artist, composer, lighting designer and dancers, Michelle presented movement environments at Defibrillator Gallery. Each work was durational, set up to give the viewer choices of when, where and how long they chose to engage with the performers. The dance surrounded the viewer in order to create a visceral response beyond the prescribed visual experience.
