The members of The Impossible! Collective received a 2015 LinkUP Residency Award.
The Impossible! Collective is an amorphous tribe of rogue artmakers based in Chicago. Kurt Preston is a computer programmer and kung fu black belt, Jajah Wu is a children’s rights lawyer moonlighting as a sideshow violinist/opera singer, and Stan Vilensky is a biologist, drummer, and tinkerer–the three have made art together since high school. In 2009, they conscripted Eli Halpern, a poet and business tycoon, to form a band. Their jam sessions evolved into improvisational melees incorporating butoh dance, live and digitally altered music, and spoken word rhapsodies.

Over the course of their LinkUP Residency The Impossible Collective! createdFlower-Storm-Ghost-Wind!
Flower-Storm-Ghost-Wind weaves together butoh dance, theatrics, martial arts, and living sound. Enter a world of dark fairytale, where beauty transforms into decay, decay into desire, desire into violence. The members of the Impossible! Collective act both as dancers and musicians throughout the piece, creating a style of storytelling that manipulates time and space and defies traditional narration.
