Chance Dance opens with a chance for you to dance! DJ Franco de Leon (, a familiar face in the local night club scene, plays eclectic sets of deep house, breaks, hip hop, and anything else that rubs him the right way. Always jumping at the chance to make people dance, Franco will be playing his favorite tracks along side his own original work. Then grab some free lemonade and sit yourself down to check out a preview excerpt of seep, a brand new movement theatre work by Chicago company, “sprung.”

Favorite Chicago dancers Robbie Cook and Marianne Kim, off on artsy scholarly adventures, are home for the summer! Cook is back from Bennington College: check out his new dance solo For K and sometimes E. Cook pairs up with Denise Zdenek for their deadpan, tongue-in-cheek duet Road Smells. Butoh dancer and brainy diva Marianne Kim is joined by ravenous performance artist Joseph Ravens. Asimina Chremos’ solo gLISTEN… will open the ear of your eye.

The newest member of Chicago’s Goat Island performance group is an accomplished solo artist based in Europe: Litó Walkey offers her 45 minute dance solo wings raised to a second power. Visit Robbie Cook and Denise Zdenek repeat Road Smells, (see August 13th, above).

Chance Dance’s Cali-Chi connection: Oakland, CA-based dancer Kathryn Matzen duets with Chicago’s Natalie Bogira. L.A.-based filmmaker LeeAnne Schmitt joins performance artists Marianne Kim and Joseph Ravens for some multimedia action. Saxophonist David Boykin accompanies dancer Asimina Chremos and the two make some mad wrinkles in time.
